    And where does it go?
I opened up my clutch cover and this was lying in the case, just minding its own business.
I checked every schematic I could find but it is not identified anywhere....
    Thanks

That is the baffle that fits below the clutch to the left of centre. I will post a picture of it fitted later.

This should be an ongoing thread with photos of random and obscure parts. Winners would receive fame, fortune and adulation from their adoring fans. @Franz , as the inaugural winner, should expect to receive these in the mail any day now. :)

Thanks Franz and Dan. I did pull that schematic up, but failed to recognize Nr. 24 as this part. Is it essential to the function of the motor? Why would it just be lying in the case like it was?
Franz, I would dearly appreciate any photos of it in its native setting.
    Thanks,

That link from Dan has good photos of how the clips/tabs snap onto the rib in the case. Just assure that the tabs on the steel baffle surround the aluminum rib. Those things always take a little maneuvering to make sure they are plugged in, and I could easily see somebody missing the rib which would allow the baffle to come loose. But just as easily they can pop out from their correct seating when you remove the cover, and since yours isn't chewed up, I suspect that is all that happened.

The clutch cover is all that keeps them in place. Nothing is wrong with yours.

Its function is to scrape the oil off the rotating clutch (it doesn't actually touch it) and deflect back down to the bottom of the case. Don't run without it.

The photo in the link Dan gave you has better pictures than I have. I would not run your engine without it. I think it is a sort of baffle to trap the oil and keep it at the bottom of the clutch case so the clutch basket is running in oil, which of course it will keep throwing off. That's what I think it is for. Look at the pictures and you will see the lugs, I will see if there is a clear photo in the Haynes manual.

Ok guys, I've got it back where it belongs. Once I saw a couple of your photos I was able to see where the tabs fit.
    Thank you all very much!

It's an oil collector keeps a flow of spin off oil for the basket to pick oil up.
