What is the best filter media in an inline filter? Is it fine mesh screen, a stone like center or a paper element? I'm thinking paper.

The gold stone. Len has 'em as do a lot of auto parts stores. Paper fuel filters are for your lawn mower, honest.

    Screens are a joke.

How's the Seca running? I reaalllyy wanna come over there (Southern Ontario) yet this year; love the roads, the food and the bad gas. (Damn Yank')

My opinion - paper makes the most sense. Finer filtration, and you can see the dirt. (in a crystal-clear housing). Sintered Bronze would have limited holes, and once clogged - you get less flow. The fine mesh screen type filter is redundant, as usually the holes are LARGER than the factory "sock" that's in the tank.

The bike is not running to good rust in tank made the carbs over fill. De-rusting tank with mixed results and need to replace the filer thus the question. Hope to go riding this week end. If you make it over let me know. We can ride that nasty curve pictured in my avatar!!!!!!!!!

Looks like we have the same gas grill, except mine has shelves on the sides...

I wasn't complaining about the food, and was just commenting on the gas, and your back roads ARE truly better.

I know exactly where that sign in your avatar is, LB, it's only a couple 'kliks' away from GroundHugger's house on the coast road.

I still like the gold stone; once the gold turns red it's time for a new one. Paper's hard to gauge.

If you have the option of an aluminum fuel filter vs. the cheap plastic ones go for it... I've snapped far too many plastic filters off inside the fuel line trying to take off the tank.

That's an older pic from this past winter. My neice in England sent some pictures of the snow they got and how it shut everything down. So I sent her these to show what we Canadians do when it snows a little bit! :D

Do not know much about paper element, but can explain about sintered wire mesh. These sintered meshes are multi layered and considered better as compared to other other common mesh. This is due to its higher durability, strength and hardness. Their position of pores are so perfect that they are best to be used.

Throwing my 2 cents into a discussion which ended 7 years ago:
The paper filters do not allow fuel to flow quickly enough. The bowls will empty out and cause starvation, preventing the engine from running after about 5 minutes. If you filter, go with sintered brass element.

Occasionally, some nonsense slips through the cracks in the wall of sanity I have built for myself. It won't happen again, I promise!
