I would like to replace all 3 of my front brake lines on my 1982 Maxim 750. Anyone here know the length of the 3 lines needed? Also, any suggestions for a good source would be welcomed. I don't necessarily need braided lines, just decent oem quality.
    Thanks-
    Bill in Grayson

Hey Bill, I have an '82 XJ650J but have bought the brake system off a '82 XJ750 in order to convert my single-disc system to dual discs.

The measurements you need are as follows. Note that they are union (end fitting) center-to-center measurements, give or take 1/4" (hard to get the lines to lay completely flat when still bolted together!) AND that the fittings bolted to the distribution block are angled, so this may throw off the lengths a tiny bit:

    Master cylinder-to-distribution block: about 20"

    Distribution block-to-caliper1: about 19-1/4"
    Distribution block-to-caliper1: about 19-1/2"

I live just down the road in Tucker, you're free to come by and measure them yourself if need be. May also want to look at the distribution block, as it may not be the same as yours......mine is the long straight style with a 45-degree angled intake port (to the master cylinder). From what I've viewed on some of the OEM parts websites, there are a couple of different styles of distribution blocks, depending on exact model, and the style of block will change the length of the lines......

As far as where to get lines, well, Yamaha probably still services them (or places like www.bikebandit.com), or you can take your originals to a brake shop and have some made (which will probably be cheaper). Lots of places like that in the Atlanta area.
