    Hello everyone,
I'm new to the site and have an XJ650RJ with no speedo at all. My question is; do I have to buy the $150 NOS speedo/speedo's on E-Bay, or can I use a different less expensive speedo.
Everything is there (not the cable) but the bracket everything else is there.
    thanks for any help.

    Ken

Th 650 Seca used a speedo that was virtually the same as any of the other bikes that came with "canned" instruments, '79-'83. Some of the XS's used the same speedo, as well as some other models.

I would probably end up getting it off eBay, but a good used one.

I'm looking for new gauges that aren't HUGE for my seca right now too. I'm checking out some at mikesxs

Virtually all Japanese motorcycles from the late '70s thru the '80s into the '90s used THE SAME drive ratio for the speedometer, X number of revs=60mph. I believe X=2240 or somesuch, you'll have to Google it or do a forum search.

Point being, almost ANY Jap bike speedo of the era will work on just about any other bike. FIT is up to you, but they do work.

It allows you to do neat little tricks like this: (one of my 550s.)

I HAD a 125mph "canned" unit that would have worked as a straight bolt-up for a 650 Seca but it was "eBayed" for the guts, the can was bent and road-rashed anyway. (I gutted it.)

BUT I continue to look for one; any pre-85mph unit "in a can" will do the trick. There are clues in the fiche that tell you what to look for but there are too many other 650 Seca owners out there for me to give away ALL my secrets... ya gotta figure that one out for yourself.

The only electrical connection to the speedo is the light.

Hey Fitz, how you hook up the gas guage on that new speedo? I've got my tank/mileage nailed now...but a guage is nice.
