yup I have seen a few sets I forget the actual name but they are for when you get too old or disabled to trust your legs anymore but still want to get out and ride. ( of course if that guy didn't have a 900Lbs bike it would prob help) LOL!!!

Interesting are they retractable? I saw a scooter with a trike kit that was basically fancy training wheels.

There used to be a company that made a retractable set called "Landing Gear".

They wouldn't deploy when moving faster than 15mph and would automatically retract at 15mph.

My understanding is that the company was in New Orleans and did not reopen after Katrina.

I've seen something similar on tv with a guy that was paralyzed. Rode a Honda cbr 900rr. The legs would come down below a certain mph, all his controls were in the handlebars. Really cool to see.

Yeah a guy in my Dad's Goldwing Riders group had something like that on his bike. He had some medical condition that made him prone to passing out. Did wan't the bike to fall over if it happened. Kind of crazy to still be riding at all but what ever floats your boat I guess.

Now I feel sheepish. I was going to mock the guy for having four wheels, 2 seats and a small trunk. He should just give up and drive a jeep. Seems pretty similar (no doors, etc)

This is a buddy of mine. 4 years ago on his way home from work at Wright Patterson AFB (Home of Hanger 18) he hit a deer at 50 miles per hour. Bought the bike with the money he saved quiting smoking. Loved his bike, but his ankle was shattered and very week so he took the insurance money rebuilt the bike. Found a article in I believe Popular Mechnics, one of those magazines. The wheels stay down until 5 miles per hour and retract. Then when he slows down they drop down. Funny thing is for a long time he would go around the building on one of the battery 3 wheel carts. Drive it down the handicap ramp to the motorcyycle hobble on to the bike and drive off. Parked the bike in a handicap spot. Now that got some looks.

I saw in my of my old bike magazines, a machine called an Eccomobile. Swiss made I think. It was a BMW K100 engine, wheels, handlebars and seat wrapped in a body like a Cessna fuselage. The engine, gearbox and drive was behind the rider. It also had the retractable training wheels, as the riders legs are inside the body. You could ride in the rain in a T shirt. I'll try to find the mag and put up a picture.
