What weight fork oil with Hagon Progressive fork springs ?

    Hiya,

    Im about to put a set of Hagon Progressive fork springs in my 1988 XJ 900 F front forks & was wondering what weight fork oil i should use ?

    I have an unopened 10 weight fork oil in my garage & wondered if that would be thick enough to use ?, the forks have 5 weight oil in them at the moment & i think it is too light, what do you guys suggest ?

    15W works for me with Progressive brand progressive springs, better than 10W which is the manual recommendation, also tried 20W but that was too harsh.

    If you mix 10W with equal amount of 20W, does it give 15W?

    Would it be that simple?

    I agree with 15w.

    Mixing is a little dicey, especially with different brands. It best to spend the 10 bucks on straight 15w.

    Different brands of oil may not ever mix completely, and could give inconsistent performance as they heat up.

    Of course, nobody would want to end up with something looking like greek salad sauce in his forks...

    Yamaha generally recommends 10W which I have always found too light for my preferences; and I have to agree with Bushy, 20W gives you way too stiff of a fork.

    I'd recommend 15W; not "mixed" but real 15W. I'm currently running it in all my Yammies.

    Yes, they do seem slightly thicker than the originals & the installation guide says that with the fork legs all the way down, fill each leg until the oil is 300 mm from the top of each fork leg

    I run 15 weight in both my xj650 and the xj900 , much better than the 10 w , even with standard springs , cheers , Murray
