I have neever needed a puller for the wheel bearings. I always use a long punch and drive them out from the oposite side. The first one can be difficult to get a bite on because of the spacer sleeve. Place the hammer blows on alternate sides to "walk" the bearing out. Don't keep hitting in the same place or it will go sideways and possible get stuck. Keep trying they will come out.
I reinstall them with a socket or piece of pipe matched to the OD of the bearing and gently tap them in place. Don't hit a new bearing on the inside race it will generally ruin it. Removing the old ones like that is OK since they are getting replaced.

We took a big bolt and tack welded it to the inside of the bearing. This gave us something to hit. Bearing popped right out then. Be careful welding splatter doesn't get where it can cause problems.

I've always just tapped them out the way mlew describes, using a long drift.

+3 Tap then out from opposite side.

Not a girly tap tap with little hammer but give it a manly smack! (or ten more)

oh man my rear wheel bearings are giving me a headache! front bearings were in properly also but the rear bearings are impossible!

what i want to ask is how much have you been able to move the spacer? my spacer moves little over a millimeter to the other side and less than a millimeter to the other??? it is very difficult to effectively punch it with anything.

is the sleeve supposed to move more??

ill take the wheel to a shop tomorrow if i dont get them out. or at least the brake side.. the rest would be easy.

going to get new tires and some powdercoat on the rims

I had a pivot bearing that required a blind puller to remove. Went to Harbor Freight and as luck would have it they were on sale for a few bucks off. Took it to the register and the lady in front of me had a 20% off coupon and an $8 item. I made one of those groan and slap your forehead statements to the lady about never thinking to print off a coupon. She INSISTED I use hers. Very nice lady.

The puller worked flawlessly. For 1/2 of what it would have cost to have the dealer pull te bearing I did it myself. And I have the tool in house for next time!

    Sweeet!

the bearing puller slide hammer thing is 69€ at my nearby shop, i think i can have the bearings pulled and tire removed and rim powdercoated for less. i may have to look for another, i love having tools and im willing to pay for quality and that thing wasnt worth its price. and i dont think it was the blind puller, only with those arms. no discounts or nice ladies there either :)

The ones with the arms won't grip a wheel bearing. There isn't enough of a lip. The blind puller expands into the ID of the bearing with a small lip on the back side. Then the slide hammer is screwed into it and the bearing pops out with a couple good pulls.

ok found a blind bearing puller kit for 895€, thats right.

also found one with the slide hammer for 89€, thats the one i got.

it took several and again several pulls to get the bearing out. it was in very hard. almost lost my faith there. i almost fabricated a pulling bracket (same as on the 10x more expensive set) on the expanding bolt to screw the bearing out but i didnt have to.

glad im through that and glad i bought the tool, now i have it for the next occasion :)

time for some powdercoating! well maybe next month, finland is closed in july.
