Where can I get the rubber grommets that hold the side covers on the bike? I have an 82 XJ650 maxim and the rubber grommets are shot... is there a place to get them besides a dealer? Anyone got any they want to part with?

I think they should be available at hardware stores, i use them on aircraft, and get them from an aircraft supplier, so the price might be worse than from a dealer, but i know they are not specifically a yamaha product, you just need to know the inside diameter and diameter of the hole it fits.

Agree with Killer_chicken, regular grommets can be had for this use, you just need to get them for a thicker application. Most are set up to accomadate wall thicknesses up to 5/32 more or less. You need units that would cover up to 1/4 inch thick. Shop it, I'm certain you can find a source that will happily supply you with a bunch for a lot less than the stealership. Have you tried http://www.mcmaster.com/ yet? They sell tons of cool stuff. Odds are very good they have what your looking for. Good luck!

Try a auto parts store like Napa, Advance Auto etc...They have a section called "Help" that carry these. NOt sure if they will fit the application but they have a ton of assorrted sizes. It's some on Flea-Bay also...

One on my XJ650J is missing. A PO replaced it with a piece of fuel hose over the pin on the body. Seems to be doing the trick.
