Okay, if you have read my earlier post you know the problems I have had. I got the carburetors taken care of except the pilot screw. Which is still on back order.

The bike is running rich. So I am tossed with that problem. If I remember correctly they have a primary and a secondary jets. One for highway and one for idle. So I am wondering if the secondary jets may be bad. Which may cause it to be rich.

Or I am thinking it maybe the pilot screws. That they may not be set right. So I was wondering if anyone knew the right setting for them or at least a base line to start.

Ooh, changed the spark plugs and that cured the back firing issue.

    Thanks everyone.

The rule of thumb for the 4 pilot screws are:

Gentle turn them all the way in (down, clockwise, right) - GENTLY don't lock them down or mess up threads
Turn them back out 2.5 turns (up, counter clockwise, left).
    Clean up plugs.
Run engine - Check colors again
    Too lean - Turn UP
    Too Rich - Turn down
    Small turns 1/8 to 1/4

Jets don't "go bad" or wear out, people screw them up. Even on the highway, the "idle jets" are a major part of the equation.

Highly doubt it's your problem. You need to:

    -CLEAN carbs thoroughly.
-set float levels with fuel using the clear tube method.
    -bench sync.
    -running vac sync.
    -THEN tweak mixtures.

NO SHORTCUTS; do it out of order or try to take shortcuts and you will be at it for a while and probably get really frustrated in the process.
