I have an 82 XJ 650 and the old sight "glass" was eaten through by the brake fluid. The sight is made of plastic. I pried it out to find an o-ring but a c-clip was nowhere in sight. Do I have the type A sight glass or type B?

    a) Master Cylinder Style A has a PRESSED-IN sight window, and would use the replacement HCP1074 sight window (glass).

    b) Master Cylinder Style B has a C-CLIP retained sight window, and uses a rubber o-ring to seal the sight window to the body of the master cylinder reservoir, to prevent fluid leaks from around the sight window. This style master cylinder will use the HCP9819 replacement sight window (glass).

If your original sight glass window was NOT retained by a c-clip internally, then you use the HCP1074 sight glass.

When you pried out your original sight glass, you may have also pried out the then metal flange ring, too, and that ring hides a rubber o-ring inside a cavity surrounding the opening, on that style master cylinder. You need to re-use that metal ring!

The "other" style master cylinder, which uses the c-clip and o-ring to retain and seal the sight glass, does not really require that the plastic window be "pried out".......the c-clip is actually retaining a "tail section" of the sight window, and thus you can simply (and easily) push the sight window out of the master cylinder body.....
