Should I buy the OEM style or EBC Organic front brake pads for my 82 XJ750 Maxim (which has 2 calipers and 4 total pads)?
    {Note: I'm not worried about the price difference.}

Other than the lack of wear groove in aftermarket, what is major difference and what would I be better off with? (Mostly country road/highway/smaller town and NOT big city stop and go driving).

    Rebuild Details:
I'm trying to get together a complete parts list and price to get a quote from Chacal to do the following:

Rear brake pads - Aftermarket EBC brand organic - HAVE
Rear wheel bearings - MAYBE - Want to find a local tool/drifts to borrow
MAYBE swap on a larger 750 seca rear tire if a deal works out

Rebuild an MC - Have one with a new window but needs to be recleaned and rebuilt kit installed - HAVE Kit
Rebuild Front Calipers - Need to buy
Stainless Steel Brake Lines + bits and pieces - Need to Buy
Front wheel bearings - MAYBE - Want to find a local tool/drifts to borrow

Refinish/repaint rims - Time and energy permitting

At this time I can't afford new aftermarket rotors but I'd consider them in the future (with new pads again).

I posted another topic about my pads squealing after I replaced them with EBC organics, not sure if that is the reason or not (the old OEMs were starting to squeal too).

I would recommend OEM pads if you're using the stock rotors, and EBC pads with EBC's rotors.

That's the route I went and haven't had any issues (although I did get the stock disc drilled.)

I'll address the squealing in your other thread.

My bike had EBC organic pads that I replaced with Vesrah organic pads. They had favorable reviews and I,m very happy with them.

However, I also installed new kits everywhere and SS lines, the difference in brake performance is unbelievable.

The Vesrah pads have excellent initial bite and are completely quiet.

Why would you want to use organic pads Bob? The rule of thumb used to be that organics worked better in the rain then metal sintered but it's not the case anymore with the new compounds used today. One of my best friends was a senior R&D guy for one of the major brake pad manufacturers and he convinced me to go to ceramics in my car (not recomended for bikes though). When he found out how I am about braking, he finally met someone who actually gets excited about really good braking components and we became very good friends. It's no secret here that I'm very high on max braking power and more inmportant, rider ability to brake asap. EBC makes some very nice kevlar fiber composition pads that will work perfectly fine on the stock rotors as well as nearly all aftermarket cast rotors. There is one maker of carbon fiber rotors now that requires special pad but I doubt you need 4 grand worth of front brakes. Just google EBC Premium and you'll find 'em for sure and the price is worth the party. Just remember to take some time to practice once you've installed any new set of pads, especially different pads.

Jeff you have confused me. One sentance says not to use ceramics for mc and another suggests them.

If you are going to participate in a race on a course that is so tight in places that you'd be doing as much Wheel Braking as Engine Braking, ... Ceramic Pads are just what the Doctor ordered.

They shed heat much faster than Organic, Metallic and Semi-metallic Pads.

But, ... Ceramic Pads are HARD on Brake Disc Rotors.

    Ceramic Pads are similar to:
    Yamaha Oil
    Iridium Plugs
    SilverStar Light Bulbs
    Tire Balancing Beads.

You get to Brag that you got them.
    But, you don't need them.

(( There's an article in the latest MotorCycle Magazine which comes close to calling "Balancing Beads" a fraud. An MIT Professor is quoted as saying the claims that the Beads "Find the out-of-balance" area defies Newtons Laws of Physics. ))

Organics "feel" better, however it is true that they wont take the heat like the newer materials. I've never noticed any indication of fade with them though.

I have an old 12 cyl Jaguar, 4000+ lbs that stops fine with organic pads. I don't drive it particularly hard but more importantly, the organic pads don't rust the rotors when the vehicle is parked for the winter. I imagine the same could be said for motorcycles that are parked for some time.

The organics work fine for "normal" driving, and they don't wear or rust the rotors.

They say: "Organic" which is true.

    The organic part is: Asbestos.

Just don't breathe the dust when you Chamfer the Pads if they don't come Pre-beveled.
