My floats have a powdery residue that resembles a calcification of some type. Only on the metal (aluminum?) pivot part of the floats, some a lot worse than others (#2 was clean as a whistle).

I took some 600 grit to it and got most of it - I don't want to put these in Berrymans.
Any suggestions for getting these sparkly clean?

Only on the metal (aluminum?)_i think their some kind of stainless steel, aluminum tends to crack if it's bent.
i just cleaned some up with oxalic acid, worked good, Pepsi or vinegar/water would be just as good i guess
