I just got the bill for my insurance from Progressive and it's $180! That's outrageous and a lot more than I can afford. I seem to remember it being around $120 before but it must have skyrocketed for some reason, it's a lot higher than the auto insurance on my truck now. Does anyone out there know of better rates I can get in AZ that can beat that? Thanks.

$180 for just one bike? I have progressive and its only $75 a year for a bike that old. I'd give your agent a ring.

ArizonaSteve .....HMMM. Name rings a bell.....

    Where ya been?

Anyhow, my Progressive went down from $240 to $200 this year. They had by far the best rates here in MI.

That's actually for 3 Yamahas. It's gone up from $129 originally to $147 or so last year to $184 this year! I can't afford that. I just called them and complained and they said it's because they "readjusted" something but they didn't know what it was! They wanted $92 just for the SR500 so I'm going to have to drop that one.

Thats almost a 50% jump overall. Rediculous. I know geico does motorcycle insurance. Hope you find something and then let us all know what it is.

I had Geico before but it was a lot higher than Progressive.
AIG has the best price on auto insurance, just $122/yr for my truck
and I see they cover motorcycles too but I don't know the cost, I'll
have to call them I guess.

Wow, Progressive quoted me $63 but Sentry was just $45.00!
Progressive wanted $92 for just the SR500 but Sentry said $59.50 for both!
Looks like I'm going to dump Progressive and go with Sentry.

Try GEICO. They have excellent rates. You can get your quote online.

    http://www.geico.com/cycle/about/shop.htm

**note: I may be biased. I work for GEICO. More specifically i work on the cycle web application.

Dairy lands m/c premiums are very competative.
Sometime when you have home/auto with one company they give a good package deal w/ the m/c.
It depends on the company though

Insurance companies in Texas use credit too.
I am only fimmilar with texas but AZ might as well.
Keep us up to date what the premiums come out to when all is said and done.
Good luck, keep the rubber side down

I also called AIG and they don't do M/C coverage themselves but transferred me to another company called Formost. The quote from them was $82 for one bike and $45 more for the SR500 with a total of $127. That's lower than Progressive but quite a bit higher than Dairyland. AIG has great rates for auto coverage though.

lowest I could get in PA for my 550 was $220 through Progressive. Geico was about the same, and everyone else was over $300.

Is that $220 for full coverage? I only get the minimum of $15k/30k for liability and and $10k property damage so it was just $45 for one bike with Dairyland.

Hvnbnd, you're getting ripped off, you should keep looking! Geico has pretty high rates, more than Progressive and a lot higher than Dairyland for the same coverage.
One odd thing I found was that every company I called asked me if the engine was still stock or if anything extra like a TURBO had been installed on it. Is there a trend to turbo charge 30 year old bikes that I haven't heard about?

No, they are required to ask.
Most of the time turbo-added m/c are inelegible for coverage.
They prob asked if there was any frame modifications too, right?

I'm not sure if they asked about the frame but I've never even seen a turbo on the street. The only person I know who owns one is Michael Oberle with an '82 Seca Turbo.

Yeah but thats a STOCK turbo, not an ADDED turbo. There's a difference.

I pay $158/yr for my bike with Rider of NJ (been with them since I got my Moped license 13 years ago). I got quite a chuckle when I called Geico and they quoted me $540 a year for 15k/30k LIABILITY ONLY (which is more than what I pay on my truck for 100/300/100). When I told the rep what I already pay, she told me that I was lying and there was no possible way I could be paying that little because "We have the lowest rates in NJ". Idiots.

Warren Buffett didn't become the 2nd richest man in the world by selling insurance cheap. Every time I get a GEICO quote on something it's WAY above the competition.

I called Progressive and told them I wouldn't be renewing my policy because I got a better quote from Dairyland but they didn't seem very broken up about it.

I am in AZ, and am with Allstate. I guess I am WAY overpaying. I pay like $300/year for liability on my 82 XJ750. I guess that I didn't think it was that bad compared to my $170/month truck insurance. Did i mention that I have absolutely no tickets or infractions of any kind. WTF?!?!?!

Wow, jephwoyo I have some prime desert land I'd like to sell you!
It's amazing how much people get ripped off by their insurance companies.
Don't feel bad though, I'm sure you agent appreciates having you put his kids through college. However, if I were you I'd go with Dairyland, 1-800-373-6879.
BTW, I only pay $121 a YEAR for my truck with AIG! You should be able to do better than $170/month unless you're only 16 or something. Give them a call for a quote and tell them I referred you. The number is 1-877-649-0632, referral code 151964.

Thanks for the info ArizonaSteve. Yeah, I have only been in AZ for about a year. I just turned 25 yesterday, so my insurance went down to something like $135/month for the truck, but it didn't budge for my bike. I will definantly call around this week.

I also have Allstate for my truck, car and home. The jerks tried to do me the same way. I tried Progressive and their quote was right there with Geico, I picked the lizzard because they let me pay in installments.

I have to admit that I didn't try Dairyland because when I was much younger I found they don't pay out well. I would probably be the one getting a payout if I wreck.

None of the companies pay out very well. I only get insurance because it's required by law so I want to get the cheapest. Progressive must be raising their rates so much in order to pay for that "free" concierge service they are advertising. I don't intend to pay for it though. I was just thinking that I could
start my own insurance company and insure everyone with Dairyland but charge the same rates as Progressive or Geico and I'd make a fortune!
