I'm thinking about switching to one of those little seat using springs (2"-3") in the rear. How many of you people using them and how do you like them? Any suggestions?
I don't really need one (I have shortened shocks, so it rides smooth enough) but I just thought about getting one off ebay to try out just for shits and giggles. They look easy enough to mount. Just another mod that would give it a better bobber look I guess. I only weigh 140 so I'm guessing I won't bottom them springs out real easy? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! PD

I just finished up with one on my 750, I have a rigid tail and springer seat only, and I absolutely love it. I'm @ 180# and have not bottomed out the 4" springs (I also haven't had it outside of my neighborhood yet). But the VERY short rides I've taken feel great. My guess is with shocks you'd be golden.

The pictures Here suck, but you get the idea.

    Thanks Worm!
I will only be using 2-3"springs to keep it as low as possible. I may just buy the springs and use them on a seat pan I made in the shop. The pivot part in the front should be a no-brainer.

I agree, very easy to install. The springs under my seat are 3"
    Good luck with it!

I don't know if its just me (being from the bay area seeing the "Frisco bobber" style all over) but i think springer solo seats on a bike with suspension looks a little redundant. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE springer seats and will be installing one on my XJ but not untill i hardtail it or at least put in metal pipes in place of the springs (only temporary untill i get the hardtail all bent up, i don't have a garage right now)

I already tried replacing the shocks with solid struts and it rode like a bicycle. Too dam hard. I figured the those little springs just can't be very effective, especially when hitting a pot hole! (ya, we have a few in Minn.) I just ended up taking 1" off of the shocks instead and it worked perfect.
I just want to do the spring seat mod for the hell of it. I like the old-school look I guess. After having back problems from over extending for years, I can't afford to gamble with a hard ride anymore. I still like putting on 400-500 miles a day. PD
