To find a repair manual for my 1982 XJ550 Seca?
I called around all the local Yamaha dealers, The first one said they could only get one for the 650 and it had to be ordered and that would take about 30 days!
The second one I called said they could get one but it would take a 3 weeks.
The third place said they could only get the factory manual and it would take a 2 weeks and cost $135!

I do not want to pay $135 and wait 2 weeks at a minimum.

    Geez.

Check with Chacal -- ask him about HCP1128 (for the factory manual) and/or HCP1094 (the Clymer version). I can pretty much guarantee he won't take two or three weeks to get it to you.

Check Ebay. I got that tip recently. Great deals to be had.

Buy the XJCD for $10 and you have all the XJ owners manuals and service manuals plus lots of other good articles and how-to instructions.

Start by not looking for a manual for a 1982. That's the biggest issue; there isn't one, per se.

The factory book for the 550 Seca is the XJ550RH book; published for the '81s. That's the only book there ever was, it covers the '81~'83s. It also offered a Maxim "supplement" which was nothing more than some spec differences. Except for the fairing, the 550 Secas were identical for all three years (as were the Max's.)

The factory book came in a loose-leaf version that dealers got, and a spiffy, cardboard-bound "retail" version with a fancy cover-- but what was inside was exactly the same. Part number LIT-11616-02-29 (4U8-28197-10.) These come up on eBay often, or reprints are available, as mentioned above.

There is also a Clymer book, which will suffice but leaves a lot of gaps, as does the factory book. The Clymer also has some outright WRONG info in it, which the factory book does not.

Your best bet is a combination of the two plus this site.
