I finally got the old XJ-750 running today thanks to the quick shipping from Len (chacal) for the idle mixture O-rings and washers but for some reason the Tach is very slow to respond. It goes up slow and goes down slow. What should I look for? Thanks!!!

Im guessing that your cable might be dirty, try taking it off and using some penetrating oil to loosen it up.

Thanks for the link. I'll be taking apart the tach. I have already traced the wires from the TCI and coil. I took every connection apart, clean it and applied electrical grease on the connections.

After you get the back-side Pivot and the inside shaft guides lubed-up ... hold the Face horizontally so any lube stays away from the face.

Move the indicator over and release it ... several times. Work the lube in. Get it loose and returning smoothly on its spring.

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes. If I get time, I might do it tomorrow.

Hey guys, look what a little Aircraft remover and Mothers polish can do.

BTW, Aircraft remover burns when you get it on your arm. Carb cleaner works very well and stopping the burn though.....

Now add a good buffing with:

Number 5 Jewelers Rouge (White) ... then, ...

    Number 6 Jewelers Rouge (Green)

Don't cut yourself shavin' in them cases!

    Dang Rick!

Makes me sick.... If I made mine look that purdy, every time I rode I'd have to be scrubbing!

    Sure is Purdy though!

My Tach did that when I 1st got my bike running. My tach is electric.

After I got it running good, the problem magicaly went away!?

Maybe 2001's is elect and might do the same!?

I just finished lubing the tach and it works much, much better. Its still not as quick to respond as my GSXR but I'm hoping once I ride the bike, it will work like new. Thanks for the help guys!
