I have a 04/1980 maxim 650. I had the title and lost it and the bike had previously exchanged hands about 5 times w/o it ever being titled so I have no idea who the original title owner was and dont want to go to DMV and hassle with the paperwork. My plan was to get a frame with a clear title and build a bike with the parts I have. I have found a frame for sale that has a clear title and is from a 1981 XJ650 midnight maxim. Will this frame work for me with no modifications? Are the "Midnights" any different? Is there a better way to get this bike on the road? This will be my first bike and am trying to do it as cheaply as possible.

P.S. Hi I'm a newbie so sorry if dumb questions but love the look of the bike and dont want to just part it out like ive seen with many of these bikes. Thanks

That'll fit like a glove. The "Midnight" bits and pieces were gold plated, or painted, and will also bolt right on. The '80 is non YICS, so the only issue I can think of is keep the "80 carbs on the '80 motor.

There's a few states that do title work on just a bill of sale.
And Welcome to the site !!

Yup, everything will bolt right in. Same frame, just different years.
