Does anyone know if there are any wire wheels that will fit the Maxim 750 with a shaft drive?

    oh and i DID search...

A little bit of research shows that a suzuki boulevard has a wire wheel with a shaft drive system....
    has any one tried this?

You completely missed the benefit of adjusting spokes!

750/1100 Viragos had a wire wheel option for a number of years. It would probably be a bolt-on proposition, since the rear drive has the same ratios. Your steering will change due to the wheel differences, maybe your speedo readings will go out of kilter, but that;s most likely easily fixed. That would definately be easier than trying to modify Suzuki wheels to work.

What about a 650? Is there anything that would fit the 650 (shafty)?

I think the wire wheels would look pretty sweet on a bobber or chppoed Max!

Funny, we envy the wire wheels and all my buddies with wire wheels dig the mags on the maxim. Grass is always greener, eh?

Then check out the link for that auction for the Virago rear. Closes tonight!

So... I'm guessing those aren't the stock forks and probably not a Yamaha wheel you have on the front. Whatcha got there?

Unless you have the skill and the tools to keep a set of Wire Wheels "Trued" you are better off looking at them on somebody else's bike than having them on your own.

Wire Wheels come Stock on several "Domestic" Bikes and I haven't talked to one guy who's had a good word to say about them.

I intend putting wire wheels on my XJ550 Cafe racer project, admittedly a lot easier than doing it on a shaft drive bike

Wire wheels are quite often lighter than "mag wheels" hence a bit less unsprung weight, as for "tuning them" they require very little maintenance and I wouldn't be checking them more than once a year if that

For a "classic " look they can't be beaten

I'm also doing wire wheels into my RD350LC race bike

Here's where mine is at right now. I need to get new bearings and fab some correct spacers. Before I'm barraged with the "it wont work, it's not safe, etc..." let me say-- thanks for your concern. I'm going to put an Avon speedmaster on it, and mod the disc to fit correctly.

I love it!! I was tossing the same idea around in my head. (Lot of space in there for tossing...) I guess ideally I would've hoped to find something with correct spacing "out of the box" but that's probably being over-optimistic.

Can't wait to see how it works out for you!

The V Star 650's and 1100's are shaft drive and some years use spoked wheels.

I'm not sure if the rear would be a direct swap, but it might be worth checking out.
