    Hello folks from Wales uk
Here we go I’ve got an XJ750 Seca 1982 USA import
It’s been triked so I have no need for a side stand so switch has been bypassed and has been fine for years
The relay has now gone and died so unplugged the white cable with a black tracer
I can live with the attari unit showing side stand but is there anyway off disabling the red warning light out of this side of things
I bought a replacement relay with blue marking but the plug seat is different in that the dead one the plug clips in with the replacement it doesn’t plus for some reson I can’t work out with the replacement relay plugged in I loose the fuel gauge
    Any help or advice appreciated
    Sorry post is long winded

Black with white tracer? Disconnecting the B/W wire will enable your ignition regardless of the condition of the side stand switch, side stand relay, or associated wiring

The computer monitor system bikes use a DPST switch for the side stand switch, one half is to enable the side stand relay (L/Y), and the other is to report status to the CMS (G/L). To defeat the side stand switch the L/Y and G/L wires need to be connected to ground, which can be accomplished by tying the 3 wires together

Thanks guys the bike is running and riding with no issues I just wanted to be able to loose the red warning light as it’s annoying I ain’t worried about the cms showing the side stand just the light I want to loose as parts in the uk for these bikes are like rocking horse shit

The above will accomplish that, unless you didn't mention you have other faults displayed on the CMS. If that is the case and you don't want to repair them you can just remove the bulb for the warning light or as some have done just cover it with a piece of tape

Is the sidestand warning not able to be cleared with a double click of the warning control button? I still haven't done the resistor bypass for the battery sensor, so clearing the light is just automatic. But maybe that can't be done for the sidestand, which would make some sense.

It’s getting hold of the relay in the uk the parts are like rocking horse basically not available shit and don’t want to pull the bulb or tape it as it’s also the ignition light that’s why I just want it not connecting to the side stand side of the warning light then it will still work with everything else

That might be an option, I only remember that the brake warning will reset each time the brake is applied after the warning light is cleared as suggested. For some having to push the switch seems to be too much so they don't like to do that every time they start the bike

If you don't want to fix it and have that safety feature then you don't need the relay. The relay has nothing to do with the flashing warning light. So, once again if the side stand fault is the only fault that you have then properly bypassing the side stand switch will correct the flashing warning light and it will still be enabled for all the other features.

Yes it is but it’s a pain in the ass as it has to be done at every stop and junction
    I’ve done this but it’s
I got you know I’ll have another look at the switch I thought I’d bypassed it correctly years ago but must be something amiss there somehow
As if I reconnect the white with black tracer the bike will run but kill itself instantly when put into gear
So I must be missing something somewhere it’s not a case off not wanting to fix it but a case of not being able to source the parts in the uk

So I questioned white black wire (W/B) earlier but no reply. The W/B wire is the oil level sensor and has nothing to do with the ignition cutoff safety feature. The B/W wire that goes to the TCI and originates at the side stand relay does disable the ignition by applying a ground to the TCI pin through the side stand relay normally closed contacts. It is this wire that can be disconnected at a bullet connector near the TCI to defeat the ignition cutoff safety feature. Or, the same thing can be accomplished by just pulling the side stand relay as it is the normally closed contacts in the relay that disable the ignition.

So knowing it is a DPST switch one pole will operate the side stand relay, the other pole will provide status to the CMS. If you pull the side stand relay the ignition cutoff will be disabled but you will still get the sidestand fault on the CMS until the section of the switch that sends status to the CMS is working or bypassed. The section of the switch that energizes the side stand relay is no longer relevant if the side stand relay is pulled or the B/W wire is disconnected

Thanks I missed the question about the wire it’s the bullet if disconnected side stand switch is correctly bypassed
If I reconnect the bullet connection I have no warning at all bike will start but kills itself when put into gear so I assume it’s the relay at fault
So if I am reading this right basically just remove the relay out the system or some how try get one from USA
Obviously if I unplug the bullet connector the bike starts and rides but with the warning light there is no other fault showing at all
But when I managed before to source a relay in the uk and trade that one I wasn’t getting the fuel gauge at all for some random reason both relay’s have the blue markings so I gave up for a while

By bullet connection please be specific. Are you saying the B/W wire that goes to the TCI - I think you are. If so, that B/W wire has nothing to do with the warning, and if so it implies that the bypassing has gone amuck and needs to be corrected. A good description of how you bypassed the side stand switch (or maybe some pics) might be helpful

Once again - the side stand switch is a DPST switch, and the pole that provides status to the CMS has nothing to do with ignition cutoff. That pole on the side stand switch closes when the side stand is up providing a short to ground, which tells the CMS a safe condition exists

The other pole of the side stand switch controls the side stand relay. That pole on the side stand switch also closes when the side stand is up and provides a ground to energize the side stand relay, which then opens the normally closed contacts to enable the TCI ignition via the B/W wire

Hi yes sorry that’s the bullet iam on about the side stand switch was bypassed at its connecting plug by connecting the three wires together then heat shrink over them as the switch has been completely removed in the past the next time I get a chance I’ll take a photo

I may be missing somethjng from prior posts but, why not just get a used sidestand switch and wire it in? It is small and hardly noticeable.

IT’s finding one in the uk but I’ve been thinking along this lines but I’d need a new relay are well as mine does not work and that’s the real pig to find over here and I have enquired with xj forever and they won’t import to uk because of the new import regulations set by uk government bloody politicians

Why would you possibly look for a side stand relay and side stand switch for a trike? I can't come up with any valid reason for needing that part of the safety circuit to be functional on a trike. The starter safety circuit would seem important and hopefully it is still working

And that will work if the other components are good, such as side stand relay and associated wiring - one wire will defeat the ignition and the other will report a safe status to the CMS

Actually, that statement says the relay is good and is being actuated by the neutral safety switch when in neutral. The stalling when shifted in gear says the side stand switch or associated wiring is not working - or in you case the bypassing of the switch is not right

And going back to this the B/W wire that connects to the TCI via a bullet connector and originates at the side stand relay normally closed contacts has nothing to with the warning light. If it does, then something is miswired. However, if unplugged it will defeat a non functioning ignition cutoff safety circuit and allow the bike to run

So for a trike the easy solution would be to just remove the side stand relay or disconnect the B/W wire bullet connector near the TCI, and then tie the side stand status wire to ground so a fault is not reported.

If this doesn't work then you need to look for incorrect wiring faults, for example does the G/L wire that you tied to ground at the side stand swithc make it up to and through the CMS 9 pin connector? Is that G/L wire properly tied to ground? If both are true and you still have a side stand fault warning and flashing red warning light then you are looking at a bad CMS

Did you do any rewiring on the trike other than shorting the side stand switch? If you are someone else did I would be rethinking that based on the B/W bullet connector affecting the warning light

Yesterday I went over to my son's to look at his side stand issue with his Kawasaki Vulcan. We traced the two wires to a connector where I checked with a multimeter to find an open circuit with the switch plunger in or out. Simple solution there was to temporarily stick a screw in the connector to act as a jumper and tape it up. Start it up and ride! He later found a replacement switch on ebay. Too bad all issues aren't that easy to fix.

Thanks for all the pointers I pulled the relay on Saturday as I had the tank off any way and still had the light flashing so iam going to re do the bypass for a start the only other thing I know is the privious owner bypassed the clutch switch and the battery warning
But I think I’ll go through everything that’s been before we bought it as I think something somewhere is amiss bit by bit I’ll get it sorted I have got a sore cms if everything else fails onward and upwards but only when not out enjoying the sun shine it’s rare in Britain
