This was the uncle-in-law of my best friend/riding buddy. I only met him at my friend's wedding years ago, but I am very close to the family and I can say there's a lot of sadness plus anger at the driver down in SW Colorado right now...

Remember, the bumper stickers might help some people remember to look out for you, but there's always one oblivious driver out there. Be on the defense even on the nicest, smoothest roads.

Always believe they can't see you, even when they look directly at you. Always believe they are trying to kill you, despite not seeing you.

Leaving work the other day, someone ran a yield sign at an intersection. I laid on the horn, the brakes and steered right. Fortunately they steered left and braked, narrowly missing me.

You really got to watch out for the other guy....

Dan, sorry to hear that news. Best wishes for your friends family to accept this tragedy.
For acceptance of a tragic loss is the only thing that will make it bearable.

Thanks stump. I think they are all taking it in stride. This is the assumed risk on two wheels, and he was a rider for a long time - rather than a bucket list biker.

The worst part is his wife's condition. She will likely be in the hospital for several weeks, I heard, and although they expect her to pull through, she gets to survive him during retirement.

My buddy had a moment where he looked at his VStrom as the next craigslist ad he lists, but I think it was just shock.

Problem with people on phones is that just skimming through an mp3 list can distract - don't even need to be making a call or text to be a danger to us.
