For years now my tach has not worked. Actualy first it was the heat gauge, the tach then the right signal light. I pretty well knew it was related to the steering but never had occasion to dig into the wirning harness. Until now. So today I was not surprized to find 3 wires broken from the turning we have to do every day we ride. I am a bit disapointed that Yamaha had not engineered this a bit better, but with a bit of soldering hopefuly they will now last another 10-15 years.

P.S. I re-routed the wires to give them just a bit more slack.

Interesting note... When you say "quit", do you mean it does not respond to throttle at all?
'Cos in my case, the tach does it's job to about 4000RPM, and after that, it just flails randomly...

I would think you have another problem. Mine had no input at all. It would come to life with the handlebars turned a certain way, so I knew it was a broken wire.....
