Last week after bench synching a set of carb on a bike that I brought, the bike wouldn't run properly.

I threw the towel in and loaded the bike to take it to the shop. I described the problem to the owner of the shop, it would run with enrichment (choke) open and throttle wide open but refuse to idle without dying. The owner instantly said that the carb has to be cleaned, period! The idle circuit was clogged. He quoted me $300 for the labor solely.

The price was enough to knock some sense back into myself. I told him that I would attempt it myself first and return if I fail.

So after cleaning the whole thing, I even took the butterfly valve out and soaked the whole carb body san rubber parts in carb cleaner (one of those 1-gallon paint bucket thing). Yes, I put some thread-lock lube on the screws on butterfly valves, lest they come loose and fly into the engine cylinder.

I practiced first on a set of carb I brought on ebay. I found that a pilot jet nozzle from one of carbs was different from the usual one found on the rest of carbs.

You can see here, the one on above is the usual found on carbs on my bike. I opened two carbs from ebay. One was the usual while the one had holes in it. What's the difference?

Anyway, I put the carb back on the bike and behold it runs much better than before, even without synching with YICS tool!

Just trying to say that anything is possible and that I appreciate this forum. I learned a lot, a lot from reading posts and am looking forward to more.

    Thanks!

The one with the additional holes drilled into it is a "Hotter" Jet. Richer.

That's the thing you have to look for when you buy a bike and the deal is sweet but there's "Some Reason" that it isn't running just right.

I found a Float Needle in a clients Carbs that had the Float Pin Lifting Wire "Mickey Moused"

I just can't understand why people do this stuff, nor why!
