Would this lock set fit on my '81 xj550?

Long story short, I lost the keys to my '81 Maxim 550, and I'm wondering if I can replace all of my keyed parts with this...

As you can see by my join date and number of posts, I'm not very active here. I've been super busy with life stuff since my last attempt to resurrect my old garage beast. Lately though, I've been feeling the pull to strongly to ignore.

I'm going to dust her off and throw up some pics soon, but in the meantime I'd like to know if the xs400 lock set will fit it.

Also, please feel free to suggest any checklist items in priority order. So far I am planning the following....

    Carb clean and rebuild,
    oil and filter,
new brake pads front and rear,
    tires front and rear,
    New lock set,
    plugs & wires,
    new fuse-box,
and any issues I find while doing the above items.

I don't know if the lock set will fit... but you coud take the lock cams out and swap them into your lock sets. I did this with my first maxim I got a set of locks from a seca, some of the things swap (gas cap, ignition) but the helmet lock did not. Changed out the Lock cam and again had 0ne key for all the locks.

I can't answer your question about the lockset. Sorry.

Consider changing the front brake lines as long as your doing all this other great work. My lines were the originals most likely. The change to braided stainless was noticeable. (I think the manual says to change them every 3 years!)

On the ignition switch, the answer is no.........that switch unit has the long, "extended reach" base designed to provide clearance to gauge clusters that are large and obstrusive (or for other reasons); it appears similar to the style used on the XJ750 Seca and 1982 XJ750 Maxim models, which used the large, bulky "Atari" gauge clusters.

Most other XJ bikes use a standard ignition switch, where the switch portion (the round cylinder) is more-or-less directly over the mounting base, rather than offset from the base.

We do have the correct ignition switches for your bike in stock.

    Thanks guys!
I can't wait to get this project going. I'm gonna keep watching e-bay to see if a set comes up for a 550. I have seen them before but usually pass them by 'cause I haven't been in a big hurry.

Hey Chacal, what about gas caps? I don't suppose you have any do you?
