WTB or trade xj 550 exhaust

I have an 81 seca 550 and it has a 4 into 1 exhaust system on it. I would like to get the dual pipe setup. Let me know what you have or any info where I may find it.

 

Golly.

It can be done, but it IS a bit of a challenge. It will probably take a series of acquisitions, unless you get lucky.

Here's some info that will help:

-The system consists of 4 separate headpipes, a collector box, and the mufflers.

-All three years of 550s, '81-'83, Seca AND Maxim, used the same headpipes and collector box. Only the mufflers were different.

-Exhaust systems from the bigger bikes will not fit, despite what eBay sellers may claim.

-It's going to take some time on eBay, and occasionally a system will become available here.

-Watch Craig's list, use the "global" feature.

-Sign up with these folks: http://www.uneedapart.com/used-motorcycle-parts.php post what you're looking for and hope a salvage yard responds. It's worked for me on a couple of occasions. **WARNING: You may get a response from a Ben Caldwell of Caldwell's Motor Toys in Russell, PA. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM. The guy is a pure crook and will rip you off. Mastercard was the only thing that saved me, and it took 4 months.*** He does not have any Seca 550 parts despite what he may claim. There ARE honest yards that subscribe to UNeedaPart; you just have to be careful and ask questions.

-Beware of "drilled" mufflers. I've come across a couple of sets now where somebody carefully drilled a set of holes around the outlet pipe, not realizing it won't make it any louder.

I have a set of mufflers, collector box, and the 4 down pipes from an '81 XJ 550 Maxim. They are pretty rough looking, need lots of cleaning/polishing and there are some small dents, but if you would like something while you look for nicer, shoot me a pm and I'll try to make it worth your while.

I have an '82 XJ 550 with stock exhaust in good condition. Do you happen to know what brand 4-1 exhaust is on your bike? I'd be willing to sell you mine or possibly trade you for yours.
