After several months of work and many dollars later, I'm done....just in time for this beautiful and unseasonable weather. After performing all the rebuilds and stuff outlined in "What did you do to your Yamaha" I final sync'd the carbs, tweaked the A/F screws yesterday and took her out for an hour or so....she's the bike she was 27 years ago....great handling, smooth as silk and very fast!!

    Welcome home little 'X'!! :D

Is that a virago seat? I love the way those virago seats feel when sitting on them. Very comfortable. I know virago's are very compatible, but look like actual virago parts. Horn and tank too. Nice job...very clean. Enjoy this awesome weather.

Thanks, No Virago parts tho, it's 100% oem MaximX....'cept for the s/s braided brake lines and Gen-II V Max mirrors.

The tank is brand new oem, my buddy is a dealer and found a NOS matching paint one in Japan.

The Virago horns will fit, and are very similar (if not identical) but the 'X' brackets are different. These are oem MaximX horns & brackets.

The xv horns are the same, but yes, the mounts are different. The seat LOOK the same but are different. The X has a real, two-piece seat whereas the xv has a single-piece seat, with a deep cut between the driver and pillion seat. The cover is all one piece, and the pan itself is also all one piece whereas on the X there are two separate pans as well.

Looks very good. Mine is very close to being ready for photos also, will be applying for collector plate. I bought mine in 1988, never dreamed I'd keep it all these years....

Just as a point of trivia...in the fall of 1988 there was a brand new 1986 Maxim X in a yamaha showroom selling for the blow out price of $3000. The same price I had just paid for mine that summer with 8000km on it.

Thanks guys....it took me 20 some years to correct the mistake I made in '88, now she's staying with me forever!!

Hogfiddles....I'll have to Mapquest it but I think she'll make it that far in June!!

I guess the real question is......can I?

You're not that far...........some guys will be coming in from Conn. Maybe you can hook up with them around Albany. I'm about 1.5 hrs from there. We'll talk more on that through emails.
