I'm looking to lower the driver seat by removing some (or all) "sponge" in it...someone did it before? I see lots of bike in the site that their owners either change the seat or lower them. Easy to do? I really don't want to change the whole configuration of the seat plus the mountings...any ideas?

Ugh, don't do this! I carved out the foam from the saddle of a Ducati SuperSport so my wife could straddle it a little easier. It worked, but it left the seat feeling like a hard plank to sit on.

Hahaha...I'm pretty sure...I saw pics where the seats in the XJ looks hard to ride on... I want at least take some foam off so I can seat lower, like a bobber type of seat, but without changing the original seat...

The EXACT same bike, but in factory trim. It takes me only about 45 minutes to swap between looks, and absolutely nothing of the original bike has been cut, modified, or in any way altered. EVERYTHING is purely visual, and can be put back to bone-stock in 45 min or so, as I said.

The ONLY thing that HAS been cut and modified is the seat.....the foam has been cut down and re-shaped, and the seat pan has been reformed a bit to match the contour of the fender. THAT seat is NOT the original seat....I did that to a spare that I bought. That way, the ORIGINAL seat with it's original cover can go back on the bike.

I love the bike Dave, especially the shiny speedometer
the only gripe is how they have the horn on the outside
it is what makes me hate the look of the old Magna's
    luckily mine is hidden

Just like that...now, you said is NOT the same seat of the bike....but it's the same seat for the maxim that you used to do this or it's another model...any mod that I should be aware of?

It's not the original seat that came on the bike from the factory---- THAT original one is on when it is in stock form. The seat that goes on when it's in it "pseudo-bob" form is a spare xj700 seat that I bought from eBay. I pulled the cover off, heated the plastic pan with a hot-air gun to reshape it. I cut down and re-shaped the foam, then reinstalled the seats original cover. So it's the correct seat, just re-contoured.
