so i found an 85 700 maxim aircooled. very clean 14k and for only 1500 bucks. so i was wondering, are these bikes geared more for cruising is it just the shaft drive or something? the reason i ask is the test ride was preet good but left me with impression that my 550 would out perform it. once moving the bike is awsome but definatley doesn't have near the get up and go as my 550. also do you have to shift slower, the 700 needed a very slow release on the clutch after shifting while on mine i can hit all 6 gears as fast as i feel. just curious or maybe i'm comparing apples to oranges here.

It sounds like the 700 needs some good tuning and burn the cob-webs out.

You also need to get used to the different way it behaves.

When you say you need a very slow release on the clutch, what do you mean? what happens if you just let it fly going into 2nd or 3rd.

That few miles I'm sure things are gummed up and she just needs some TLC on the maintenance end and some good twisting on the fun end!

it has been sitting but not for that long. As for the shifting it just felt if i really got on it that it wanted a smoother clutch throttle transition than my 550. but now that i think about it i never used the clutch on my 550 so i guess i really wouldn't know, lol. i've always wanted a 700 but after riding it i think i'd actually miss my 550. the guy's selling it but in no rush. i'll be seeling mine at the end of the summer. if he still has it then that's cool. my bike now just needs more than i can give(mainly time wise but money ain't free, lol)
