I have bought a 550 but the previous owner took carbs a part and placed everything in a trash bag which got a hole on it and he moved a few times so I have carb body and a few carb parts...I have a running 750 and thinking to borrow carbs from 750 to see if 550 will run. if runs I will be looking to buy 550 carburator

what are your thoughts on this project?

It won't run worth a darn with the 750 carbs. Partly because the jetting and more so because they wont fit. That last one will keep it from running at all.

The 750 came with hitachi carbs and the 550 had mikunis (at least the 550 seca), total different specs.

And the 550 carbs are 28mm vs 32mm for the 650/750. The center lines are different too.

Well if the engine turns over, and you have compression and spark, then yes the bike will run. No need to bugger around with the wrong carbs.

You're going to need a whole rack; jump on eBay.

Things to keep in mind: the 550 Seca and Maxim used the same carbs, but there were slight internal differences (pilot air jet and slide needles.) If you want to make life easier on yourself, find a rack from a Maxim.

Also, a key component of the throttle mechanism is a 3" long "stub cable" that connects the throttle quadrant on the rack to the actual throttle cable. Without the stub cable, you'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out how to hook up the throttle cable.

See if you still have one; or make sure the rack you buy has one with it.

You can see it in this pic, hanging away from the throttle quadrant:
