Hey guys, got a quick question regarding gaskets. I've got an '84 XJ750 with the beloved Hitachi carbs and I'm doing a cleaning. I got new float bowl gaskets but they're slightly different from the ones that were in there previously. The new ones have an extra hole which was not there on the old ones. The question is, which one is correct? The obvious answer is the old one, but does that mean i need new gaskets or should i block off that hole somehow? Thanks

Hmm these gaskets where are they from? I think you might get away with a little RTV , personally I would put a little RTV on gasket and glue this to the float bowl and put a dab over extra hole ( reason I put gasket on bowl is a little grease on the face of gasket it is easier to remove bowl and if you have to replace gasket for some reason it is much easier!! On mine P/O glued them down to carb body took me much scrapping to get off )

The gaskets that I got from Chacal were similar. The extra hole is there so that the gasket is reversible so it can be oriented either way you choose. There's no need to cover the extra hole...it won't affect anything.

Ok, thanks. If it doesn't matter and won't affect performance i guess i won't be trying to plug it up. I'll just see how it runs.
