How new is the battery. It could be that you are not getting enough voltage out of the battery to effectively start it. If you have not checked the voltage output on the battery start there. Also if you have not done it check the fluid levels in the battery. If they are low this will also cause this problem. This might not be your problem but it is at least something to check. Good luck!

Sounds more like a battery / starter issue if it fires right up by pushing.

Get a set of jumper leads and attach a battery tender and try to start. If it fires straight up then you KNOW it's a battery issue. If not, then check the voltage to the coils (you might need to do a relay mod if the voltage is low)

How many miles on the bike? It sounds to me like it's not charging the battery and riding it is running it down. Does it EVER spin from the starter button? Or go "click? Or??? Could be a lot of things; you haven't given us enough to go on...
