Looks really nice, but that asking seems high. It's still a 33 yr old bike. I suspect half that is a good counter.

That is the bike that Jon Fife had built..... It had been well-documented on his site, but the page is now gone.

It's was a lot of work, and careful fitting, but in a nutshell it basically comes down to a simple concept--- put a 650 turbo front fairing on a 900rk. He then did brake upgrades and some other stuff.

What this CL posting leaves out ( for whatever reason) is that a while back, Jon had an accident with the bike. Shortly after that was the last time I talked with him, he was debating what to do..... I believe he had rebuilt the bike since then. The last few times I checked for his page, it's gone, and I've tried reaching him a couple times earlier this year but to date he has not replied to my phone calls.

Maybe he's the seller, maybe it has moved on.

Whatever the case, it's a bike that was conceived as a "bike that Yamaha may have been planning for, but never produced". His page documented how he fit the fairing on, what lined right up, and what things had to be modified or added to complete fitting the fairing assembly to the bike.

I seem to recall that he had actually built two, so I guess it's possible that this may be the other one----

The first is also registered on the 900rk Seca database, don't remember if the other is, or not ....

I may be going to look at the XJ900 in Pittsburgh tonight (8/24/2016), I'll definitely update if I pick it up. May end up trading my Sabre VF1100s for her.

I would NOT pay that kind of money for the Pittsburgh one......nor trade a sabre 1100, unless the condition were comparable

Personally, I'm not interested in buying it----but around here, that would be about a 900-1000 bike.....maybe. I find it mildly amusing that the ad says "newly restored". That's not restored at all. .

900 - 1000...maybe, gosh, you would hurt the man's feelings. i figured a 900 that runs and is shiney ought to get 1100 or 1200 even if he did paint over the badges
