In the process of trying to rebuild my anti-dives on my 1983 XJ-900 Seca, I ended mangling the little wire clips (XJ4EVER part# HCP21521) that hold the seal (HCP21446) in place in the main body. When it came time to reinstall new ones, the situation was even worse. I tried using a socket in the vice, but that didn't give enough access.

Then I realized I could leverage the threaded hole for the adjustment screw at the bottom. I modeled up this tool to make it easier to keep it centered on the seal and added a washer to spread the load from the bolt. Just insert the tool, then the washer, then thread the bolt down through the hole at the bottom. It worked great! I went from being totally frustrated to thinking the job was a piece of cake.

I uploaded the model on Thingiverse for anyone else that might need it.

Note that technically this tool is optional. You could do it with just the bolt and an appropriately sized washer. But the tool helps protect the seal and makes sure everything is centered. Conversely, you could probably skip the washer and just use the tool, and it would be fine.

If you use a washer, make sure it's between 12 and 12.5mm OD or it may damage the seal or get in the way of inserting the wire clip.

Rebuilding the anti-dives on the 900 is almost enjoyable now. :)
