I could mow the lawn in about 12 minutes at 75 Mph! Thats awesome, but such a waste of an XJ!

    That is sweet!

I actually bought my XJ to do the same thing with it. A buddy and I were going to put a motorcycle engine in a mower thinking it would be a fun project; we got a mower from his grandma and then bought the Seca from a guy my buddy knew for $100. After striping the Seca down I decided that the bike was in too nice of shape and we didn’t want to mess with the shaft drive so we abandoned the project. I reassembled the bike and have enjoyed it for the last 4 years/16,000 miles.

I'm curious about the driveshaft to rear axle conversion. Do you have any pictures of the build?

That's an awesome project. I would like to make a dune buggy for my boys. So, here are some questions:

    1. What kind of welder do you use to weld that square tubing frame? Mig or arc? How many AMPS?
    2. What do you use for your rear axle? Is that just a steel rod?
    3. Do you just use the XJ brakes on that rear axle?
    4. It looks like you just cut the square tubing connections and welded. No bending needed?
    5. What is that steering mechanism on the front wheels?

I used 1”x2”x1/8” square tubing , I welded it with a mig I’ve got a 140 amp that works good on the 1/8” tubing. The axle is ACRALLOY it is a lot like MOLY-KROME I got it at this site http://www.pmtsco.com/COLD.HTM I took the spline off the wheel (the one that fits into the drive unit) and machined a part to fit inside and bolt to it and used a ¼” key way on the 1” axle ( I had to hone out the drive unit a little for the 1” axle) . The brakes are off the front of the seca and a rear master cyl off a xs 550 and a disc off a go kart (ebay) . The front end is jr dragster spindles
