Back last November I took a gamble on a $400 83 Maxim 550. I had been ogling Harley XR750 Flat Track Bikes and I wanted my own. So I Build one...with a 550.

Heres a few Photos and theres more at the link showing the hole process.

looks really good tracker! I like the color blue too.
one question: why is it that everything seems to be on the other side? the shifter, front brake rotor, battery, and so on.. are all on the left side..?! i'm lost lol was it something you did or do all 550's come that way?

Very nice! Are you going to do anything with the battery box area? I forget who it was on here, but they put a fake oil canister in there that I think the battery went in and it looked really good. Anyone remember who that was?

@moellear thanks. the maxim only had one single front rotor where as the seca had dual. the batter is centered in the frame underneath the seat.

@dwcopple the pods have not given me any tuning trouble it runs great. my dad did the gauge cluster thanks

NIce job tracker. Rear fender is looking good too. Are you gonna put her on the track, or is this just eye candy? Ilove flat track racing. Don't know if I've ever seen a 4cyl. on the flat tracks. Cool looking ride .

Nicely done! I'm planning on doing something similar to my SR250; just got the seat/tail section. I noticed that one of your Facebook pictures showed a trial fit of your seat with what looks like a Seca tank (versus the Maxim tank you ultimately used). Why didn't you go with the Seca tank? Also - would like more narrative details on the components and custom work.

OK - how about more construction details about the tail/license light and the gauge assemblies?

    Hi

that's a nice bike there my friend, noticed you were saying you'd like a Seca tank, it just so happens I'm looking for a maxim tank for my project, which started out as a European spec 4v8, originally sold in Italy but currently in the uk, If you are still looking and don't mind the fact that, the tank on mine will need a little work, I wonder if you might consider a trade.
Its a long shot, and a long distance, I know but if you don't ask eh ? anyway here's a link to the facebook photo's I have so far if it's of interest,
    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... e=1&ref=nf

i can put up more detailed pictures of the tank alone if you think it may be of use,
