XJ1100 Maxim coming available Feb. 15 near Detroit

I've got an XJ1100 Maxim abandoned in my shop in Plymouth Michigan.

I've filed a lien against it and if the owner does not pay up it will be auctioned Feb. 15, 2012. I don't expect the owner to redeem it since he never transferred the title and the actual legal owner has moved far away.

With the sale will come the Michigan paperwork for the purchaser to obtain a clean Michigan title. My guess is anyone wanting a non Michigan title would have to title it here then transfer the title in their own state.

This motorcycle has a case of severe neglect, but appears complete. Lots of corrosion and dirt. In addition to the usual neglect items it will need carburetor holders and fork rebuild. The inner fork tubes are pitted. Supposedly it ran a year ago but you know how reliable that information is.

Mostly I want the thing gone so I really don't want to bid on it myself. I've got about $100 actually tied up in the thing and if there are any bids for that much I won't submit my own bid.

If any of you guys close enough to pick it up wants to have a look during the holidays give me a shout. We can probably come up with a method to submit a written bid for anyone who wants it that cannot actually be there on 2/15.

It's going to be auctioned. I expect it will go for more than $100. The auction is at 5:30 today.

I do have it listed on Craigslist.

 

Can you let us know what it ended up selling for. I've seen a wide range of prices for these bikes so I'm just curious. Thanks!

 

It sold for $220. I had a telephone offer of $350 but cash in hand won the day.

Given how much work it needs (fork tubes, rear brakes sticking, carburetors, carb holders, battery, fuse box, +inevitable surprises) and the fact that 2nd gear is a complete unknown that is probably a fair price.

I quite probably could have bought it myself and made money parting it out but my busy season is just around the corner (I hope) and I don't think I'd have time to mess with it.
