    Hey guys

Long time since I have been here. Greetings. I have not ridden much in the last couple of years but want to get my XJ1100 running better.

I am digging into dead speedo and dead tach.

Bought and installed a replacement aftermarket speedo cable from Chacal. The speedometer deflected a few MPH but soon went to zero. There is a rattling sound inside the cluster now so I think that the receiver inside the speedo is bad. Has anyone repaired the inside of a speedo?

The tachometer connector inside the headlamp measures 14.4V DC brown to black wire and 8.45V AC white to black wire. It appears the signals for the tachometer from the engine are good. Has anyone repaired the insides of the tachometer?

I will most likely just buy these from Chacal, but if fixing is an option I will give it a try.

Are you sure the cable is spinning. Your speedo drive may be damaged.
    Not sure about the tach

More info... I removed the tach/speedo from my XJ650 and temp wired it to my XJ1100. I started the bike and ran it at high idle. The XJ650 tachometer works but shows about 4X the actual revs of the engine. My guess is that there is some difference between the two tachometers.

The XJ650 speedometer works when riding the 1100 around the neighborhood.

Looks like I am going to have to buy used tach+speedo. The non-working ones will have to be a repair project for a later date.
