well iam going to look at a 82 xj1100 tomarrow it has 16,000 on it and is a complete bike, the story is that it will only fire 2 cylinders.
he thinks its a bad tci box.
i did read up on how to tes by swaping wires.
I do have an extra tc1 from my 82 650 seca but i noticed that the numbers are all diferent, lik3 02- 06 i think his is 10
i did try to swap my 650 tci to my 750 and it will fire but runs crapy.
so i think i need a machtching number tci?

the bike is all there clean and has 4into1 and aftermarket air filters.
he wants $400 do you think its worth it and when i go what shuld i check?
should i bring a battery and mayby my extra tci i would think that if i plug my tci and all 4 cylinders fire than that would be a good start and a good by.
also is the 1100 alot faster than the 750-650 i have a 1000 gl and i like bigger bikes.
    any help apriceated

You'll want to check how the tranny performs.....1100's have a bad problem with 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 5th gear.......not going into gear, jumping out of gear, stuck in a gear, etc.

Very common problem with them, and a real bear to repair.......

If it looks good and he has a title, BUY IT. Tranny problems do happen with the 1100's but they only show up if the bike has been abused and shifted with out the clutch. The TCIs won't interchange from your Seca so please don't try it , you might ruin your good TCI. I would look at coil or carb problems . For 400 bucks you can't go wrong, if its in good shape you can part it out for more that that.
Is the bike anywhere near North Carolina? I would not hesitate to buy if you don't.

No doubt, for $400, even if its a lemon, your sitting on a small gold mine of parts.

Check the connectors for the coils, they may have corrosion on them causing only one side to fire. I had an xs 1100 and it was pretty fast but never had tranny probs....

also i think he has texted and replaced coils
also how do i check the trans? if its not running, well he got it running but only on 2 cylinders. also sounds like he has messsed with it some becuase he had his tci looked at by a shop and they said they dint no how to fix it lol. anyhow i have so many bikes just didnt no how much faster the 1100 was compared to 650 and 750?

Not to pull anyone away from this forum, but the XJ1100 shares more with the XS1100 than the XJ bikes. Check out XS11.com there is TCI repair info and there are one or two people that do repair the TCI for a reasonable rate.

That being said, there are some parts that are different enough from the XS1100 so get the majority of your parts from chacal to make sure you get the right ones.

No way to check the trans with out the bike running. Don't wait to long to get the bike or someone might buy it from under you.

ok i picked her up today and she looks clean well kept, and always garaged. hardly any rust. iam going to take a look at it this weekend and see whats up with it only fireing on the 2 cylenders.

he tested coils and even replaced the coil that controled the none working cylenders. he even said he swapt wires and then the other 2 cylenders workd sound like tci box to me but i will have to do my own diognostics.

wow it is a big bike totaly diferent than my xj650 and xj750. hole differnt monster. well 400 bucks and i get 4 into 1 and pods so hey not gonna complain
