i have a 81 xj550r that comes stock with a 16 tooth front and a 46 tooth rear sprocket and i was looking to gear it for more acceleration i have done some research and found that for there bikes they offer a 15, 16, 17 tooth front and a 44, 45, 46 tooth rear so i cant go up a size in back all i can to is go down one size up front, and i was wondering if anybody has done this before and can tell me how much of a difference it made and if it is worth it

Personally I would gear it higher so the motor is a tad more relaxed at freeway speeds. You probably won't notice the one tooth difference in acceleration.

That being said, are you going by the book, or did you put a dot on the sprocket and count? My '81 came with a 45T and I have yet to find one that actually came with the 46T.

If your Seca came with a 46T sprocket, please post your "shorty" serial number and date of manufacture off the steering head, after you CONFIRM. Thx.
