XJ550 4U8 airbox

    I managed to find a XJ550 4V8 airbox in a wreckers and ordered it. It arrived and upon unpacking doesn't look bad. However, it does say 4U8 rather than 4V8. Are there differences between the two models in the airbox? My bike is a 1981 XJ550 4V8.

    Also, any tips or ideas on how to make it look somewhat decent/smooth?

    is the 4 u8 on the air box cover for the filter? maxim and seca same part for the cover.
    that is a seca 550 airbox
    maxim would have a mounting bracket on the top front of box for side cover grommet.
    there are no screw holes for the bracket on your photo so Seca style is what you have
    visual difference between air boxes is mounting tabs for side covers on the maxim box.

    also heard you can reglaze the box with a heat gun do not know for sure

    You're a lifesaver as always, friend. Thank you! Another part of my XJ550 puzzle at least partially solved.

    What's weird though is that I did not see the second part of your post until quoting it?! I only see this:

    I was editing and had to go check the box on my maxim and seca 550
