    While changing out my clutch I removed the brake pedal for easy access. After reassembly I noticed the brake return spring was just hanging. I've been scratching my head for hours trying to figure out how it attaches. I know the curved end fits over the bar on the pivot but can't figure out where the straight end attaches for the tension. There doesn't appear to be anything to attach it to. Can anyone help. I can't find a diagram or picture anywhere.

    Thanks, Jimbo

    It doesn't attach to anything.

    As you've figured out, the hook goes over the front of the lever arm;

    the straight end just engages/stops against the bottom of the little bracket for the pedal height adjuster screw.

    There is a certain amount of "preload" you simply reach in there with the tip of a screwdriver and push the end down enough to hook on the bracket as you pull the lever stub back into position in the frame.

    Having a garage full of 550s helps. It took me a few minutes of head-scratching to figure it out the first time I did it to myself too.
