xj550 cuttin out

    any one got any ideas???? im runnin a 82 xj550 witch i build up to a little bobber (i'll stick a pic up soon). she'll run for about a mile maybe 2 then she'll cough and splutter then die out! she'll pick up 2 a fast idle if u hold the choke on, ive ran it with a set of spark testers and its not lossing its spark. ive compleatly striped the carbs and even changed the carb bodys them selfs its got long ht leads on as the coils are under the seat. but it done over a 1000 miles befor this started happening. im realy at the point of given up with this bike and i realy dont want to as i love it to bits so once again i ask any one got any ideas????? cheers guys

    Check the petcock for proper operation. You may also not be getting enough vacuum to the petcock to draw enough fuel. I found a split intake manifold that was causing me a problem.

    Could also be a plugged gas cap vent. The next time it starts to sputter pop the cap open.

    Run the petcock on PRI (as a test, not permanently) and see what happens; if it works fine you've got a petcock problem.
