    Hello

Both fuel lines coming from the tank on my XJ550 '82 Maxim are worn and cracked. I want to replace them but I can't find the specs anywhere to know what sizes I should buy - I guess they're imperial. I have a Clymer manual but I couln't find a size ref in there and I can't find the replacement hose parts anywhere online (other than buying lengths of hose - but again I don' know what size to buy.)

    Can anybody help out there?

    Thanks!!

There should be one fuel line which is bigger diameter, 8mm maybe? And a vacuum line that goes to one of the vacuum nipples on the intake boots, typically number I think. That line should be 4mm vacuum line. Don't use fuel line for that as it has a tendency to collapse which cuts off the fuel flow because of lack of vacuum applied to the petcock. Dang! Wasn't typing fast enough!

BTW, I searched for "fuel line" on that link and came up with "6.35mm ID ORIGINAL FUEL LINE"

Ok - back with another question - on the fuel system link - it has lots of part numbers (HCP122 etc - see below) - what do these reference numbers refer to? IE where can I use them to order the parts - thanks

HCP120C OEM dogleg (90-degree bend) molded 6.35mm ID ORIGINAL FUEL LINE, from the petcock to the fuel rail inlet nipple on the carbs. Correct black fuel hose with red tracer stripe is used on all XJ550 and 1984-85 FJ600 models. NOTE: use the HCP122, HCP3106, HCP2945, or HCP16427 pinch clamps with this fuel line.

If you click the "xj4ever" icon at the top right of this page, it takes you the overall catalog. If you want to order anything from there, use the "inbox" link below that and "start a conversation" with the user "chacal". He's the one that runs the parts business and is a supporter of this site. Great resource and can answer many questions about the parts.

Thanks dkavanagh - so the part numbers are specific to xj4ever? I'm in the UK - I'm guessing chacal is in the US?

    Correct on both counts.

Chacal (XJ4Ever) does ship internationally, but if he shipping costs is out of your budget Yambits.uk has many of the correct XJ parts as well.
Be very careful when ordering form anywhere else, as most vendors (and many manufacturers) are happy to tell you that a part fits when it either does not, or fits a different XJ from the one you have.

I'd add that Chacal sells some parts that nobody else carries, including things that would otherwise have to be custom made.

Ok - again thanks guys really useful - i think I'll contact chacal - and see if the shipping is affordable - the bike is a US import so kinda makes sense. Also your recomendations are really welcome. So much out there on the interweb.

I think you will find that the molded fuel and vacuum lines are discontinued at dealership and supply houses.

4mm vacuum line and 6 mm fuel line will do the job
