Hi all have recently rebuilt an XJ550 1981 UK model.Once the fuel lines had been attached and the battery given a good charge it fired up after several attempts with a little choke however the appears to be a low down thumping noise a around tick over speed which disappears as the revs increase?I know this is a 37 year old engine with only 11000 miles on the clock. It has me beat and I'm thinking is there some slack somewhere?Top end is OK?no leaks although I'm running it on cone airfilters as the airboxes are like Hens teeth here in the U.K! Could it be a counterbalance shaft issue? It has me beat!Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That would be the primary chain. The tensioner is hydraulic. Bump the idle up to around 1200 RPM and the thump will go away.
