hey ther i have an 81 seca 550 yics, and i was at a flea market about a year ago and ran across another yics chain drive and it was in a crashed aluminum frame and had 599cc stamped on it instead of 528cc but i didn't have the money so i passed it up, and i was back there a week ago and the same engine was in the same place, so i got the vin off of it and it comes back as a 1986 yamaha fz600, the engine is still in the frame and is is compleet from carbs to header the guy only wants 80 bucks for it, is that a good deal, and i don't know if there is a problem with it but when i went to open the slides on the carbs to look inside on the number 2 cylinder it puked oil out of the vacume, but that might be from sitting on its side for so long, so if someone could let me know if this angine would be a bolt in replacement for more power or if it would be too much of a headach and a waste of time any info would be helpfull

I would be interested to hear what other people say but I don't think I would bother with it. I'm not familiar with either bike but from what I hear the 550s move pretty darn quick. That engine sounds like its in really really rough shape too.

Your best possible outcome is the engine bolts right all the wiring is the same and the cabs fit into the airbox with out modification. I would say that those are all pretty unlikely since it is a different engine line. From the sound of it if that all manages to go well you will have a heck of a time cleaning that engine up.

I would get the 550 tuned right and enjoy it. If you need something faster sell it and get a different bike.

I might be wrong but im going to say different style frame means different mount points...but almost anything can be done with enough money and time.

It just might. The "upright" motor like the 550 was different from the "angled" motor like the Seca II, but the "upright" 600s were a straight swap. I don't know for sure if the increased displacement will lead to a certain power improvement; tighter emission specs in later years may have sapped performance; or not. More research is in order, that is a swap I'm interested in myself IF it would be worth it.
