I am a 52 yo father of 3 and have been passionate about motorbikes all my life. I work as an Electrical Engineer for a Local Water company and take a holiday to the Isle of Man every year with the lads for the TT races.
    I currently own a Triumph Daytona 2012. A Honda C50 LAC 1981 and now an XJ600.
I have been wanting to build a specific cafe racer out of one for about 5 years and in the middle of last month for the perfect (I hope ha ha) donor bike 50 miles away in Sheffield.
After a short train ride and the exchanging of the bike and docs for £650 I rode it home through the clouds of the Peak District. It didn't miss a beat and is currently sat in the stable awaiting the start of its transition.
This won't happen until later this year as I'm planning on doing a little touring on it with my good lady on pillion.
Glad to have found an active forum that I can bounce off during the journey.

    Sounds like a good 'n.
I've been looking for one or a 550. They seem to be fetching good money and yours sounds about the right price.

Future classic has been mentioned by a few mates on another forum. I'm not a fan of the stock bike though. The CR I'm doing with it on the other hand is absolutely drop dead gorgeous

Water company? UU then? Used to work for them!
I'm currently converting a midnight maxim into a flat track/cafe racer type thing.

Has anyone any experience of battery relocation on one of these ? I've done it before on a Cx500 and it was quite easy ( basically just make a steel box for a GelBatt. ) to fit between the frame where the old exhaust 2:2 collector box

    He's my start point.
Current faults include passing fork seals and it's been down on its RH side at some point

Indeed. The 600 is as ugly as a stick compared to its predecessor th 550 (IMO). However A guy from sweden has managed to transform a 900 from the same era as your 600 into the best I've seen of that era - check it out in the 'Hangout Lounge'..

    Cheers

This is the end game for me. Credit to Oberdan Bezzi. I'm gonna aim for a Jan19 completion date.
