    Hi, my bike isnt starting.

I have to roll the bike forward in gear to get it to even start to turn. Which makes me think my starter motor has gone.

The starter motor starts to turn but then doesnt, it doesnt turn the engine fully. Also makes me think the starter motor has gone.

Anyone know what will cause this? Do i need a new starter motor.

It sounded like the battery was low but i charged it and its still doing it.

Also can anyone tell me whereabouts the starter motor is on my 1998 Xj600n?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Rich

Hi rich. I live in Northampton. own an xj600N too. Can i ask what your bike is like at high speeds. does it struggle getting upto a decent speed and you find 4th gear is the only one which helps pull at 60mph.

Also do you have a boost of power at 8k revs as mine use to but it has lost it.

Also does your engine sound like blug blug blug on idle?

i will be interested to know.

as for the starter motor i have a haynes manual. if you give me your email address i can scan the section to do with starter motors and email it to you. Virus free of course. It would need to be opened with microsoft word. my email is andymanhole780@yahoo.co.uk

also does it turn over. if not does the oil light light up when you press the button, but nothing happens. this happened to mine and it was the starter relay switch

I'm having a similar problem with my 1980 xj650. when I go to start it with the starter button it wont start. it won't even attempt to turn over, but the oil light does light up. If I push it and drop the clutch in first gear it will fire right up no problem. Is my problem the starter relay switch? If so, what do I need to fix it? Thanks for your help guys.
