Ok. So I need to pull the shims. I bought this Motion Pro 08-0020 tool:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OO ... UTF8&psc=1

It doesn't work with my 94 XJ600S. There doesn't appear to be a spot on the cylinder head (after I remove the valve cover of course) to bolt the tool in.

It seems like you need holes along the perimeter to attach the tool to, but mine are in the center. Check out the pic of the valve cover:

So, who has adjusted valves on an XJ600S and can point me in the right direction to find the tool? Yamaha wants 100 bucks for it!!!!!

    Thanks,
    Dennis

You already own the tool, just rotate the motor till the valve is open and stick a ziptie intk the port. Of course, you need the manifolds off.

I believe this is the tool that you need for your bike.

Thanks for the replies. I'd rather not use the zip tie for fear of breaking it or damaging something inside. I don't believe that the tool moose posted is correct. The contour seems wrong. I hope someone with a Seca II comes along...

The tool you have and the one I posted are the only ones I've ever seen for XJ's.
Good luck finding what you think is the right one.

The tool that Moose posted the link to should be the correct one. It slips under the cam and the edge of it holds the bucket down.

Your are correct that the earlier-style "bolt down" tool won't work on the later bikes that have no bolt holes on the perimeter of the head.
