Hello everyone. Well i ran across this problem prior to pulling the side of the gearbox where the shifter is looking for the neutral safety switch located it later underneath the bike. Now im having problems it feels like im only catching 4 gears sometimes 2 or 3. I cannot find the neutral maybe its a clutch cable issue hopefully . The Shift fork that connects to the round looking thing that actually moves it into gear had to be shimmed (the part your foot touches not the round thing) i shimmed about 1/16 of a inch. using a small washer against the gearbox. The forks prior to shimming, was not even able to engage to the other forks that mate with the foot lever. Any help would be appreciated. I have seen other postings on this for other bikes but they werent on my bike . Ill try to post a pic in a few days.

I think i may be missing a dowel pin in the segment bikebandit.com part #1148194

it sounds like two problems to me.

One, if you are missing a dowel pin then something is more than likely rotating when it ought not be.

Two, a dragging clutch/misadjusted cable will make it very hard to "find" neutral; the bike will just want to go into first or second and keep skipping over neutral.

First gear is all the way down.

If it's not selecting, something is amiss.

Bike Bandit is NOT the best place to buy Yamaha parts, by far. We have a resident parts source, member name chacal. Click on the XJ4Ever link in th upper right of the page banner or send him a PM. Check his catalog in the forum "XJ4Ever, supporting vendor."

Here's a link to a Yammie fiche with really good pictures, even compared to the official site: http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/par ... fault.aspx

Figure out what's missing and fix your shift mechanism. Then adjust the clutch; you should have about 3mm (ain't much) play at the lever.

Some more info on the bike and its history with you would help a lot. So would a basic location in your profile; it's kind of embarrassing sending an Aussie to AutoZone.

Listen to Fitz. I wish I had heard his words long before I spent some of the money I did on Bikebandit

Don't get me wrong, I won't say bad things about BB, I've bought aftermarket accessories from them and gotten great service.

But they're NOT the place for OEM parts. Use a Yamaha dealer like Babbitt's if you insist, or contact chacal.

Bike Bandit is an accessory "superstore" they really aren't all that good at OEM; it's just not their "forte."

Having a Clutch that is not adjusted very well will lead to Shifting Problems.
If the Clutch isn't getting a full throw-out, the Shifting becomes harsh and selecting gears DOWN becomes difficult, ... getting the Bike into Neutral becomes a fight.

The difficulties lead to the Shift Mechanism becoming abused.
Far more force than necessary gets applied to the Shift Lever. The resulting Hard applications to the Shift Lever cause some troubles with Parts that are not designed to require such force.

Getting ANGRY and stomping on the Shift Lever damages Shift Drums, Bends Shift Forks and Strips Spline'd Parts making them become loose fitting and eventually ruined.

When you have Shifting problems; the first thing to do is make sure you are getting the full disengagementn of the Clutch.
