I'm replacing the old severely dented exhaust with a nice dime sized hole in the bottom on my 1981 XJ650. This bike is my first real hands-on mechanical experience so I'm not the most knowledgeable. That said, and only having this Ebay ad as my reference, I think I had turbo headers/exhaust or maybe a custom exhaust before:

Could any of you tell me the year cross combatibility or what will work with my 1981 Maxim?

I found the right muffler of a 1981

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Exhaust- ... 500wt_1182

And the left muffler and headers of a 1983

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-X ... 500wt_1182

and the full 1982 seca set

Would any of these work? Thanks!

That header is for (what looks to be) a Mac 4-1 exhaust set. This will not fit the Turbo(unless it's being converted to a naturally aspirated bike), but might fit yours, assuming it really is made for the 650. You will still need a matching muffler.

The chrome mufflers you found will not work with that Mac header.

Seca exhaust will not fit on a Maxim without some creative engineering.. The tabs will not line up, and (at least on the 750's) some angles are different.

In other words..... You need a matching header/muffler set for _your_ bike.

    Hold on now.

The first eBay listing, for the header: NO.

The other two, with the parts to assemble a complete exhaust for an '81-'83 Maxim: Should work. The exhaust systems for the 650 MAXIM model years '80 thru '83, were the same.

The "entire system" for the 650 Seca: No. (I could sure use it though.)

So yes, with the two "650 Maxim" listings, you would have a complete system that would fit your bike.

I'm not giving "buy or not" advice related to the condition of the parts, that's between you and the seller. But they would work.
