Hi everyone, I have an 81' xj650 with what looks like stock 4 into 1 rh exhaust.

I am looking for a replacement muffler/exhaust tip. The one I have has a clamp at inlet and a single bolt tab to frame near exit. The internal baffle has started to rattle some.

Any suggestions, whereabouts on an exact replacement that others have used.

    Thanks.

welcome to the forum. your xj originally had a 4 into 2 exhaust. the 4 into 1 you have now is aftermarket.

Thanks for input. This is my setup. All I've been able to find is complete 4 into 1 exhaust setups (mac). Header pipe is in good condition, I just need a new muffler/ exhaust tip to match.

You can put just about any muffler or exhaust tip you want on there. Just remove the one that's on there, measure the outside diameter of the header outlet and go shopping!

Or you could make your own like this guy: http://xjbikes.com/forums/index.php?threads/xj650-mini-muffler-pics.20423/ :D His thread states a 2.5" OD diameter for the header outlet. Pretty good chance yours is the same.

Dime City Cycles has a pretty nice selection of mufflers at competitive prices.

You might also be able to use a reducer like this if you find a muffler you like that isn't an exact fit for your header:

I like the looks of the 4 into 1, but I don't think you can run a centre stand with them. Does this exhaust increase HP, or is it lighter? My exhaust is rusted, so I'm weighing the options... So many mods, so few dollars!

Most people that have put a 4 into 1 exhaust on their bike, has had to re-jet the carbs. So add that to your list.

On a 650 you can indeed run 4-1 with a center stand. Mine came like that, dont know if its a special configuration but it all fits. Side stand too
